Counseling for Family Members of Addiction
When your loved one struggles with substance abuse, do you find yourself walking on eggshells, constantly anticipating the next crisis? Are you frequently asking yourself, "How can I help?" or "Am I enabling this behavior?" Do you feel a pervasive sense of guilt, shame, or isolation, wondering if you are somehow to blame or if anyone else understands your silent suffering? How do you cope with the broken trust, the financial strain, and the emotional roller coaster that often accompanies addiction, all while trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy for yourself and other family members?
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I can support you by integrating Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Reality Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). With SFBT, we can collaboratively identify your existing strengths and resources, shifting focus from the problem to what you want to be different and exploring "exceptions" when the problem is less severe, fostering hope and achievable goals. Reality Therapy can empower you to assess your current choices and behaviors in relation to your needs, helping you determine if your actions are truly serving your best interests and encouraging you to make more effective choices. Finally, CBT techniques can assist you in recognizing and challenging distorted thought patterns (e.g., self-blame, hopelessness) and developing healthier coping mechanisms and communication strategies, thereby reducing your emotional distress and improving your ability to interact constructively with the situation.
